Hey everyone - we all know that the batteries and chargers for our dear Pleos are not all they could be. Thanks to Adam, and others, we have some access to better/working batteries. I have successfully re-celled the packs but the results are mixed (I've tried all types including Eneloop Pros)
I decided the give Lithium batteries a go, and the results are so far encouraging.
Modify the charger - gut it out and make connections direct to a multi - RC type charger.
Make a simple tin (literally biscuit tin) holder - careful soldering to make it complete and tapping over the 'end' to secure the plastic end plate... see the pics.
Buy 2 x 3.7 lipo's from AliExpress - wait ...... 😂 ..... solder them in series ... ie one pos to one neg connection.
Solder to tin (mine are nickel strips sold specially for battery work) strips, hot glued over the appropriate hole in the end plate.
Tape up the exposed connections and slip the two lipo's into the 'tin'.
Make up (OK so this is a little more tricky) another opposite 'end plate' out of flat plastic stock....
Screw, glue, and charge up......
So far it worked a treat - ran Pleo for about half an hour with only the slighest warming of the tin surround - absolutely as normal as the NiMh batteries.
No Pleo's were hurt or damaged in the surgery - it was all external.
No thermistors were used in the construction - you may want to - I may later if warming is a problem.
AliExpress link - just over £9 for the 2 Lipo's including VAT and delivery to the UK
